Lake to Land Dioramas

Magee Marsh Visitor Center

About the Project

During the total renovation of the Magee Marsh Visitor Center in 2022, Graphite Design + Build worked with Ohio Department of Natural Resources and local architects and construction companies to re-design the interior of the building. The design includes dioramas, maps, interactive elements, and educational signage that highlight the past, present, and future of northwest Ohio’s wetlands.

This section of the visitor center highlights typical scenes that span from the open water of Lake Erie to the forests on land. Three additional dioramas are centered in the room that display a Bald Eagle nest, the marsh in winter, and the forested beach ridge found near the lake. The dioramas include many sculpted elements, carefully placed taxidermy, and mural scenes painted from exact photos of these locations.

Special thanks to Anthony Tscherne for providing photos of the project.
