About the Project
During the total renovation of the Magee Marsh Visitor Center in 2022, Graphite Design + Build worked with Ohio Department of Natural Resources and local architects and construction companies to re-design the interior of the building. The design includes dioramas, maps, interactive elements, and educational signage that highlight the past, present, and future of northwest Ohio’s wetlands.
This diorama gives a glimpse into the thick, impassable ground of the Great Black Swamp before it was drained by early settlers. The trees were built using molds of real bark found in the wetland and the plants, taxidermy, and painted wildlife are all reminiscent of native species found in the swamp.
Special thanks to Anthony Tscherne for providing photos of the project.
